Archipelago - Alexandre Murucci

Curated by Alexandre Murucci's individual exhibition held in 2019 at the Candido Mendes University Gallery, bringing together a generous set of works that discussed the diverse and no less perverse relationships that were established in the Brazilian landscape in the face of an experience of devastation, exhaustion and closure.

Où sommes-nous?

It is curious to think that my first curatorship was done outside Brazil. During a 3-month residency at the School of Fine Arts in Montpellier, provided by the Interface project, during the year of Brazil in France (2005), I developed a project where I followed part of the students' production and held some meetings to talk about their / our research processes.

We opted collectively for an exhibition that brought together part of these works, in addition to other proposals by Brazilian artists and that discussed the possibility of a relationship between the two countries, through different media: installations, performances, photography and music. With this last one, I had one of the most interesting moments of my trajectory. A live, bilingual presentation, which curiously mixed some instruments such as guitar, viola, violin and berimbau.

It is important to highlight that, at this moment, curating for me never required any distance, because I already believed in the possibility of thinking of my place as a curator-artist.
